Xiaomi engineers break their heads to solve unusual puzzles … once a year

The world’s leading technology company celebrates the traditional Chinese festival with lanterns and puzzles.

On February 26, 2021, Xiaomi engineers gathered in the center of the Xiaomi Science and Technology Park and stood in a long line to face a special challenge: solving flashlight puzzles.

Xiaomi held the Lantern Festival this Friday at its headquarters, a traditional Chinese festival that dates back 2,000 years. The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month of the lunar calendar, which marks the last day of the lunar New Year celebrations. During the Lantern Festival, people go out at night carrying paper lanterns and solving puzzles with the lanterns on a stage with traditional cuisine and music.

The Science and Technology Park was decorated with hundreds of bright lanterns, which attracted several “Miers” – Xiaomi’s employees – to take pictures using smartphones ranging from the Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Redmi Note 9, Redmi K30 Pro until just Wed 11.

Children were also seen in line when Xiaomi allowed the Miers to bring members of their family to campus. It was fun to see that children sometimes solved the puzzles faster than the more experienced engineers, since the puzzles are anagrams, asking participants to answer which animal a poem refers to, for example. The winners were rewarded with various prizes prepared by the company and some of the attractive prizes included vouchers to be used in the campus cafeteria, allowing the Miers and their families and friends to enjoy meals on that special day.

“Xiaomi is a young company with young Miers. As part of the company culture, our employees celebrate festivals, including Lantern Festival, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Halloween, etc. for Miers and his family and friends to have fun. Traditionally, the Lantern Festival is a day for family unification, however, some of our Miers at headquarters come from different regions or countries and are not with their families. We hope that today’s event has created a platform where they can have a good time with friends and colleagues who are their “family members” in Xiaomi – a great family for them, ”said Fan Ling, Director of Wellness and Culture at Xiaomi. .

The lantern decoration show will last for two weeks for Miers and visitors to enjoy before the next campaigns.
