Chinese Xiaomi continues to push the boundaries of fast charging.
Already a couple of years ago, the company presented the so-called Super Charge Turbo solution, which could charge a smartphone with a 4000 mAh battery in 17 minutes.
But since then it has been quiet from Xiaomi, which then also did not include the 100W technology in any of the new models in this year’s Mi 11 series (even though the flagship model Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra however, came with both 67W wired and wireless charging). Only last year’s Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra has so far been equipped with 120W fast charging.

200W HyperCharge
But now there will finally be other buns. Huawei has today introduced a new charging technology called “HyperCharge”, which can charge a Mi 11 with 4000 mAh battery from zero to 50% in just three minutes. A full charge takes eight minutes. You can watch a demonstration in the video below.
In addition, Xiaomi has also launched a wireless version of HyperCharge that will be able to charge a mobile with a 4000 mAh battery in just 15 minutes.
At the time of writing, we do not know when – or if at all – Xiaomi plans to make the new technology commercially available for smartphones or other products.
The fact that this year’s Mi 11 Ultra had to settle for 67W charging – a major downgrade from last year’s Mi 10 Ultra with 120W charging – may indicate that Xiaomi is struggling to cope with some obvious challenges; the fast charge offers problems with heat generation and battery life.
