Xiaomi set a new milestone. For the first time the company made Lei Jun it became number one in the world mobile market throughout June 2021.
Xiaomi managed to overtake not only Apple, but Samsung which has been the king of the world’s mobile phones. This is the report of Counterpoint Research’s Monthly Market Pulse Service, as seen on Friday (6/8/2021).
Xiaomi managed to control 17.1% of the world’s mobile market share. Counterpoint noted the growth of the vendor making the Redmi brand 26% from the previous month. This makes it the fastest growing brand for the month of June.
“Since Huawei’s downturn began, Xiaomi has made consistent and aggressive efforts to fill the gaps created by this downturn. OEMs have thrived in Huawei and Honor legacy markets such as China, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. In June, Xiaomi was even more helped by the recovery of China, Europe and India and the decline of Samsung due to supply constraints,” said Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint.
The supply constraints mentioned earlier by Pathak made Samsung’s market share down from before. Now the technology giant from South Korea controls 15.7% throughout the month of last June. While its strongest rival, Apple, has a market share of 14.3%.

On Samsung supply constraints Counter Point Senior Analyst Varun Mishra said Samsung’s production was disrupted in June, which resulted in the brand’s devices facing shortages across channels.
“Xiaomi, with its strong mid-range portfolio and broad market coverage, is the biggest beneficiary of the short-term gap left by Samsung’s series A,” said Mishra.
Going forward, if the situation in Vietnam does not improve, Samsung’s production is likely to still be hit by Xiaomi as its market share is eaten up. However if supply recovers, Samsung’s rating is likely to change again.
Mishra also commented on the Chinese mobile market. Seen the Chinese market growing 16% in June driven by the 618 festival, with Xiaomi to be the fastest growing OEM. This is inseparable from aggressive offline expansion in lower tier cities.
“Other than that the solid performance of the Redmi 9, Redmi Note 9 and the Redmi K series. At the same time, due to the new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam,” he concluded.
