Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra Smartphones Unveiled at MWC 2024: Features, Prices, and Release Date

(from our special correspondent)

Specifically, the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphones had their premiere on Sunday. The manufacturer boasts that both models raise the bar a bit higher in practically all respects, great emphasis was placed primarily on the quality of the cameras, as the new products use Leica Summilux optics.

The highlight of the offer is the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, this smartphone has four cameras on the back with a wide range of focal lengths from 12 mm to 120 mm. Its main camera boasts a continuously variable aperture of ƒ/1.63-ƒ/4.0, which, in combination with the large one-inch LYT-900 sensor with a dynamic range of up to 14EV, guarantees good quality snapshots even in low-light conditions.

A Leica 75mm floating telephoto lens, a Leica 120mm periscope camera and a Leica 12mm ultra-wide-angle camera complete the four-camera setup. Of course, the advanced photo system can also be used for shooting videos. Resolution up to 8K is supported at 30 frames per second. In 4K, it is possible to take up to 120 frames per second and a five times slow-motion effect, while zooming is possible in the full range.

Special grip for photographers

To make matters worse, Xiaomi unveiled a special photographic grip, which also serves as a phone case, especially for the new 14 in the Ultra version. Thanks to this, the phone is held very much like a classic camera, so taking snapshots is much easier.

The grip includes a two-stage shutter release, a zoom lever, a customizable video recording button, and another custom control wheel. It also works as an external rechargeable battery that provides 1500 mAh of battery life.

Smaller and bigger display

Users can view captured snapshots on a 6.73-inch AMOLED display with WQHD+ resolution (3200×1440 pixels). It also offers a high brightness of 3000 nits, which should make it easy to read even in bright sunlight. The variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz also deserves to be highlighted, but it is slowly becoming a standard even for competing flagships.

The screen is covered with special Xiaomi Shield Glass, which is curved on all sides and corners. In practice, it thus combines the visual appeal of a flat screen with the tactile response of a curved edge. Durable glass is complemented by an aluminum frame and Xiaomi nano-tech vegan leather on the back.

The second new item revealed is the Xiaomi 14 smartphone, which is more compact than the Ultra version. This is due to the fact that a screen with a smaller diagonal of 6.36 inches was used for it.

Specifically, it is a CrystalRes AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2670×1200 pixels. However, potential buyers can still count on a peak brightness of 3000 nits and a variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz.

Top performance

It is not surprising that the manufacturer also paid great attention to the performance of its new flagships. The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro models are thus powered by the top mobile Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform, which boasts a 32% increase in processor performance and a 34% reduction in power consumption in an intergenerational comparison, as well as a 34% increase in graphics performance and a 38% reduction in power consumption .

In addition, both models are complemented by the Xiaomi IceLoop cooling system, which ensures fluidity even in demanding scenarios, such as 8K video recording, playing games or using artificial intelligence in real time. Xiaomi 14 Ultra even has a double cooling system, Dual-Channel IceLoop has a dedicated second thermal channel exclusively for the camera module for smoother photography and video recording.

Xiaomi 14 is powered by a 4610 mAh battery, it also supports 90W HyperCharge charging and 50W HyperCharge wireless charging. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra then boasts an even bigger 5000mAh battery with 90W HyperCharge charging along with the new 80W HyperCharge wireless charging technology.

Both phones use the Android operating system, which Xiaomi has adapted to its image through the HyperOS superstructure. In addition to an intuitive user interface and quick response, this platform also boasts a whole range of artificial intelligence (AI) elements. They come in handy when rewriting texts and editing photos.
