Xiaomi 12S Ultra Presents 1 Inch Sensor, Leica Optics, and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

TEMPO.CO, JakartaXiaomi 12S Ultra finally officially launched on Monday, July 4, 2022. This device brings a camera which is greatly improved with the help of Leica and the latest Snapdragon powerhouse.

When compared to Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, parameters camera additions are similar to their predecessors with a pair of half-inch sensors for the ultrawide zoom camera and focusing periscope. While the main camera is still new.

Leica brings its imaging expertise to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra both in terms of optical design, as well as imaging software. The lens in front of the 1-inch sensor is an 8P element lens, which takes care of issues like flare, chromatic aberration, and ghosting.

In addition, there is a lens edge ink coating, as well as a cyclic olefin copolymer material, and an infrared light filter with spin coating technology. Leica has adorned the entire rear camera module with the iconic Summicron label.

Software-wise, there are two styles of photography, “Leica Authentic Look” and “Leica Vibrant Look”. Authentic look aims to produce a natural image, focusing on the contrast of light and shadow, adding depth to the photo.

The vibrant display leverages Xiaomi’s computational photography acumen with the Leica aesthetic. In addition, there are Leica filters – Leica Vivid, Leica Natural, Leica BW Natural, and Leica BW High Contrast.

The other two cameras on the back of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra carry a 48MP Sony IMX586 1/2.0-inch sensor which is trusted as already used in the Mi 11 Ultra. Ultrawide is 13mm f/2.2 with autofocus and macro capabilities. The telephoto camera has a 120mm f/4.1 periscope. Both capture 12MP still images with 1.6µm pixels after binning.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra can capture high-efficiency JPEG or HEIF in 8-bit, as well as 10-bit DNG RAW files with embedded profiles for Adobe Lightroom.

On the video front, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first Android phone to support Dolby Vision HDR recording. 10-bit h.265 video captured in HLG with the Rec.2020 color space in 4K and FullHD. In 4K mode, users get 30fps and 60fps at up to 80Mbps, while at 1080p it has 60fps at 55Mbps and 30fps at 35Mbps.

For the Xiaomi 12S Ultra screen, there is a 6.73-inch E5 Super AMOLED with a resolution of 3,200 x 1,440px with AdaptiveSync Pro support, which can be used in various ways from 1Hz to 120Hz. The embedded battery has a capacity of 4,860 mAh which supports 67W wired and 50W wireless charging (10W reverse wireless charging).

Xiaomi has two dedicated Surge chips for battery management. The Xiaomi Surge P1 charging chip protects the battery from overcharging and prolongs its life, while the Xiaomi Surge G1 manages battery usage, extending endurance.

Supporting the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with 8GB or 12GB RAM variants. On UFS 3.1 storage, it also varies between 256GB or 512GB. The new Snapdragon claims a 10 percent increase in GPU and CPU performance and a 30 percent increase in power efficiency compared to 8 Gen 1.

Xiaomi boasts that the 12S Ultra features an innovative new 3D liquid cooling mechanism, which uses a network of capillaries to pump the coolant condensed on the opposite side of the warm area.

Like the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, the 12S Ultra features stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon, with support for Dolby Atmos. The software used is MIUI 13 on Android 12.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra weighs 225 g, is water and dust resistant with IP68. The color variants offered are Classic Black and Verdant Green with a leather finish on the back.

So far Xiaomi has confirmed that the phone will not be available outside of China, where it retails for CNY 5,999 for the 8/256GB, CNY 6,499 for the 12/256GB, and CNY 6999 for the 12/512GB.
