Xiamen University’s first postgraduate sports competition begins

Xiamen Daily News (Reporter She Zheng, Correspondent Dai Peiqi) Yesterday, nearly a thousand graduate students of Xiamen University and their supervisors walked out of the laboratory to participate in Xiamen University’s first postgraduate sports competition. There were two competitions: dragon boat racing and ultimate Frisbee.
This is the first time that Xiamen University has organized a sports competition specifically for graduate students. Zhang Zongyi, president of Xiamen University, said that students trained by first-class universities should also have first-class physical fitness. “Exercise for one hour every day, work healthily for fifty years, and live happily for a lifetime.”
The most special thing about this sports competition is that each participating team registers as a project team and must bring a mentor to participate. That is, each team must have at least one mentor. The school said that 30 colleges organized more than 90 participating teams, including 115 graduate tutors, including 14 deans.
Pan Weilian, an American professor from Xiamen University, participated in the competition. This was his first time rowing a dragon boat. Pan Weilian believes that such sports competitions will help students get to the stadium. Sometimes, he is very anxious for the students: students used to ride bicycles, but now most of them buy electric cars.
Yesterday’s dragon boat race started at the Siming Campus and Xiang’an Campus of Xiamen University – the Siming Campus was arranged at the Xiamen University Reservoir, and the Xiang’an Campus was arranged at the Water Training Center. The total track length is 200 meters. The school’s sports department said that some team members have participated in training in the past few days. However, from yesterday, there were still quite a number of people participating in the crash training on site. The teacher told everyone a secret: the first action of dragon boat rowing is like “cutting vegetables”, cut it, and then slice it. Everyone suddenly realized.
Among the current students at Xiamen University, graduate students account for half, reaching 54%. Starting from 2021, Xiamen University will offer swimming, tennis, golf, body shaping and other courses to graduate students in a “walking course system and club system”. It will innovate the teaching methods and integrate physical education classes into the study life of graduate students.
