Xi Jinping’s Suppression of the “Second Generation Red” and the Decline of the Deng Xiaoping Family: Analysis and Implications

[Voice of Hope, September 22, 2023](Comprehensive report by our reporter Wen Hui) The recent news of the arrest of Li Shangfu, Minister of Defense of the Communist Party of China, triggered speculation that Xi Jinping took the opportunity to suppress the “Second Generation Red”. The outside world suddenly discovered that this wave of attacks had spread to Deng Xiaoping’s eldest son, Deng Pufang. Deng recently quit the Disabled Persons’ Federation, which he had controlled for more than 30 years, and was replaced by Yang Xiaodu, a close confidant of Xi Jinping.

Xi Jinping recently took Cai Qi to Zhejiang for inspection, and Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, and Wang Huning also conducted inspections one after another. After the top leaders of the CCP made a collective appearance at a seemingly unimportant joint conference of persons with disabilities, they gathered together to investigate, seemingly wanting to prove that there was nothing major going on within the CCP. However, many analysts have pointed out that the outside world knows that the CCP is indeed up to something, and that the CCP’s top leaders are deliberately pretending to be fine at this time, which just shows that something is really going on.

On September 18, the Eighth National Conference of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation was held in Beijing. Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi and others attended the meeting, and Ding Xuexiang delivered a speech. The meeting concluded on the 20th. Yang Xiaodu, Wang Qishan’s old department and former deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China, was rarely appointed to succeed Deng Pufang as the eighth honorary chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation. This means that Deng Pufang has completely withdrawn from the Disabled Persons’ Federation, which he has controlled for more than 30 years.

Current commentator Yue Shan analyzed that with this personnel arrangement, the person who succeeded Deng Pufang was Yang Xiaodu, Xi Jinping’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection thug. Xi Jinping’s intentions may go far beyond simply trying to investigate the Disabled Persons’ Federation, which has been controlled by Deng Xiaoping’s family for many years.

Some people believe that this also represents the complete decline of the Deng family.

Deng Pufang is Deng Xiaoping’s eldest son. He was persecuted and paralyzed during the Cultural Revolution. He founded the Disabled Persons’ Federation in the 1980s. In 2008, he handed over the chairmanship of the Disabled Persons’ Federation to Zhang Haidi, who is also paralyzed in his lower limbs, and changed it to the honorary chairmanship. According to the practice of the Chinese Communist Party, the chairman of the Disabled Persons’ Federation is in charge of practical matters, but the honorary chairman represents authority.

Yang Xiaodu, who took over as the honorary chairman of the Disabled Persons’ Federation this time, was a member of the Shanghai Municipal Standing Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department when Xi Jinping was transferred to Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Secretary, and was a member of the “Xi Team”.

Because Yang Xiaodu is not disabled, he is a close confidant of Xi, and he has an anti-corruption background. These factors have attracted attention during his current appointment. According to outside analysis, the inside story may be that the Disabled Persons’ Federation has corruption problems.

In 2019, the Chinese Communist Party’s China Youth Daily reported that once the leaders of local Disabled Persons’ Federations turn to corruption, they can still “make a lot of money,” and the money they make is likely to be life-saving money for disabled people.

Deng Pufang founded the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, and relied on his family’s power to directly contact relevant leaders of the State Council of the Communist Party of China, and listed it as a separate account in the national plan. The outside world called it Deng Pufang’s “independent kingdom.” In recent years, the Beijing authorities have been trying to “go to Deng and promote Xi”, and there have been constant rumors of Xi Jinping’s break with the Deng family.

Yueshan’s analysis pointed out that Deng Pufang’s withdrawal from the Disabled Persons’ Federation was ostensibly due to age or health. In fact, it was because Xi Jinping’s third term should not allow any factors that would endanger his authority. Zhang Haidi came to power during the Hu Jintao era. He must have had feelings for Deng Pufang for many years, and his age was also a suitable reason, so Zhang Haidi was removed in time.

“In short, Xi Jinping asked Yang Xiaodu to be the honorary chairman of the Disabled Persons’ Federation, mainly to guard against the Deng family, and also to prevent anyone from using Deng Pufang again to use Deng Xiaoping’s reform and opening up signs to promote Deng and suppress Xi. Moreover, Xi sent Yang Xiaodu who has an anti-corruption background. To suppress Deng Pufang, what is inconvenient to say is: if you have the slightest intention of making a comeback, or are used as an anti-Xi banner, even if you have left the party, I will punish you at any time in the name of anti-corruption. This is tantamount to adding more pressure after Deng Pufang left the party. Lock it up.” Yue Shan said.

Overseas commentator Tang Jingyuan once analyzed that the CCP’s political move to “remove Deng and promote Xi” may show that Xi Jinping does not want to appear as the “successor to Deng Xiaoping’s line”, but wants to use his own banner in the name of “Xi Thought.” This also means that It shows the decline of power of Deng Xiaoping family. This may also involve a split in the red second-generation circle, and the political landscape of high-level families may be being rewritten.

Currently, the internal strife within the CCP is intensifying as never before. Li Xi, Xi Jinping’s crony and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, has been constantly scrutinizing “insiders” in the discipline inspection and supervision system. Many cronies and ministers of Zhao Leji, the current third-ranked member of the Standing Committee of the CCP, Chairman of the National People’s Congress, and Party Secretary, have been removed.

Recently, the Japanese media broke the news for the second time and continued to report that Zeng Qinghong represented the veterans in attacking Xi Jinping in Beidaihe and roped in 94-year-old military veteran Chi Haotian. Although the authenticity of the two revelations is questionable, the intentions of Zeng Qinghong and his gang against Xi Jinping are obvious.

Wang Youqun, a former writer for the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, analyzed that if the Jiang faction wants to find someone to replace Xi Jinping, Zhao Leji may be an option. First, Zhao is relatively young, 66 years old this year; second, Zhao is the most senior among the seven current members of the Politburo Standing Committee, except Xi; third, Zhao has a dark heart and a thick face, and has no bottom line in his bad deeds. With Xi Jinping’s suspicious character, he has to be wary of Zhao. If Zhao is found to have committed a crime, Zhao will be captured mercilessly. Li Xi, a close confidant of Xi, is constantly looking for “internal enemies”, which is also an ominous sign for Zhao.
