Xi Jinping Will Not Let Taiwan Separate

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

President China, Xi Jinping, stated that he would continue the unification plan Taiwan, and threatened to crack down on anyone who sought to liberate the island from Chinese rule and establish a separate government.

Xi made the remarks in a speech marking the centenary of the Chinese Communist Party. The commemoration was held at Tiananmen Square, Thursday (1/7).

“Finding a way out of the Taiwan issue and reuniting the motherland is the historical task of the Chinese Communist Party as well as the aspiration of the entire people,” Xi said.

“All Chinese women and men, including those separated by the Taiwan Strait, must work together and move forward in solidarity, and crush efforts to liberate Taiwan,” Xi continued.

In his speech, Xi said he would answer all questions about the fate of the Taiwan reunification plan, which has been seen as a political obstacle at the regional and world levels. This is because the United States, which is China’s enemy, has continuously expressed support for Taiwan.

The political conflict between China and Taiwan is also feared to turn into a military dispute.

Some time ago Xi said he would not hesitate to use military force to fulfill his promise to unite Taiwan with China. However, the Taiwanese government is currently retaliating by stating it is ready to face a Chinese invasion.

Taiwanese society is also divided over this. Because, most of them also have relatives who live in mainland China. Moreover, Taiwanese businessmen often do business with China.

As a result, the population of Taiwan who supports unification with China is also not small, although there are still many who choose to support self-government.

Taiwan also continued to strengthen defense cooperation with the US, by purchasing a number of weapons. This is what makes China angry.

In response, China has also continuously sent fighter jets, reconnaissance planes and warships through Taiwan’s airspace and waters.

The conflict between China and Taiwan has become even more murky after Japan recently touched on the issue. Japan, which is an ally of the US, said it was inclined to support Taiwan because it felt that China, which was allied with Russia, was increasingly aggressive.

On the other hand, Xi stated that the main goal of the Chinese Communist Party is to create prosperity for the people. In addition, he expressed pride in the achievements of the Chinese Communist Party which was able to change the face of the country from a feudal empire to a communist state.

“The Chinese people are not only capable of destroying the old world order, but also capable of creating a new world order. Only socialism can save China,” Xi said.

Xi also said China would continue to develop their military and arsenal to maintain sovereignty and security in line with world standards.

“We must accelerate the modernization of our national defense and armed forces,” Xi continued.
