Media: Xi tells Biden plans to reunite Taiwan with mainland China
At a meeting attended by dozens of US and Chinese officials, Xi told Biden that China preferred a peaceful reunification, according to officials.
According to the officials, the Chinese leader also mentioned the predictions made publicly by representatives of the US Armed Forces, according to which Xi plans to occupy Taiwan in 2025 or 2027. Xi is said to have indicated to Biden that these predictions were wrong because he had not set a time frame for his plans.
“NBC News” sources also said that Chinese officials have asked Biden to issue a statement after the summit, which would say that the United States supports China’s goal of peaceful reunification with Taiwan and does not support Taiwan’s independence. But the White House rejected this Chinese request.
