President China, Xi Jinpingadmitted that he was shocked to learn the news of the China Eastern Airlines plane crash, Monday (21/3) local time.
China Eastern plane MU5735 crashed into the hills in a village near Wuzhou City, Guangxi Province.
“We were very surprised to learn that China Eastern plane MU5735 had an accident,” Xi told Chinese state television CCTV via AFP.
Xi also ordered to make total efforts to evacuate victims and investigate to find the cause of the accident.
To date there have been no reports of casualties of China Eastern Airlines carrying 132 people. Of that total, 123 were passengers and the other nine were crew.
According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the China Eastern plane lost contact in the city of Wuzhou, Guanxi. They have also sent a team to the scene.
“CAAC has activated the emergency mechanism and dispatched a team to the scene,” the CAAC said in an official statement quoted by Reuters on Monday (21/3).
Meanwhile, from FlightRadar24 data, flight tracking ended at 2:22 p.m. local time, with an altitude of 982 meters and a speed of 376 knots.
The plane was supposed to land in Guangzhou at 3:05 p.m. local time, but it didn’t happen due to an accident.
The China Eastern Airlines website features black and white in response to the crash and a sign of respect for the victims.
So far, the safety of China’s aviation industry is among the best in the world for the past decade.
