Xi Jinping officially appointed as President of China for the third term. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) congratulates Xi.
“Congratulations to President Xi Jinping for his re-election as President of the People’s Republic of China,” Jokowi wrote on his Instagram account, Saturday (11/3/2023).
Jokowi’s congratulations were written in English. Jokowi also uploaded a photo of shaking hands with Xi.
Jokowi also invited Xi to continue and strengthen cooperation for common prosperity. He also invited Xi to continue to maintain regional peace.
“As strategic partners, let us continue to strengthen cooperation for the welfare of both countries and continue to contribute to regional peace and stability,” he said.
As reported AFP and Channel News AsiaFriday (10/3), nearly 3,000 members of China’s parliament, or the so-called National People’s Congress (NPC), unanimously voted for Xi as China’s President in an election where there were no other candidates.
The voting was carried out at the NPC annual meeting which was held at the Great People’s Square in Beijing since last weekend. Determination Xi The NPC’s third term as President of China comes after he was confirmed for the next five years as Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese military leader — the two most significant leadership positions in Chinese politics — in October last year.
At the NPC meeting, the 69-year-old Xi also received unanimous support for a third term as chairman of China’s Central Military Commission. Xi’s candidacy for the next five years in a third term was made possible after changes were made to China’s Constitution in 2018, which abolished term limits.
