<meta itemprop = "headline" content = "Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition: a preview “/>

With Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition Monolithsoft returns to the Nintendo Switch. In a first preview we will introduce you to some of the changes that you can experience in the game yourself from May 29th. In which points has the developer made improvements? How do they fit into a gigantic JRPG? And was possibly even tried and tested from the actual saga successor Xenoblade Chronicles 2 accepted? The following preview gives you a glimpse of what to expect in the definitive version of one of the iconic games of its generation at the end of the month.

Homecoming

Back then I had the Nintendo Switch with me right at the start of sales Breath of the wild granted and spent the next gaming months with this game. What do you do when you have successfully completed a gigantic open world title? Exactly, you jump right into the next 100 game RPG! In my case it was Xenoblade Chronicles 2. And although the 80 hours I spent in the Alrest game world there was a real roller coaster of emotions (an execution of this may be found elsewhere) I only have good memories for the game in the end.

For me it was the first point of contact with the Xenoblade saga. I knew the first part of the series, but I never played it myself. Accordingly, I was very pleased when Monolithsoft and Nintendo announced that Xenoblade Chronicles will be reissued in the Definitive Edition. Of course I wanted to know how the threads come together with the second part. Can the 9 year old game keep up with today’s standards? I will have a definitive answer to this in two weeks.

Then our review will appear just in time for the release of the game. But I have already spent about 15 hours in the game and can therefore give you my impressions of the polished features of Xenoblace Chronicles give. One point straight away: The Definitive Edition feels like a complete game expansion of the second part. Playing the game feels like coming home. Home, to Alrest.

More enjoyable gaming experience

For the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 played all adjustments will be familiar. However, they only really stand out if you also played the first part and can use it as a comparison. The developers put great emphasis on creating a more pleasant experience than could have been the case in the 2010 version. The long walk to the client after completing the quest is now a thing of the past. As soon as you have collected the necessary resources or killed the monster in question, the mission will be completed automatically. How practical!

You want to walk across the vast plains of the giant Bionis and take a look around with the camera? It is now very easy to let our protagonists run automatically at the touch of a button. This leaves more time for exploration. Speaking of looking around! While you are running, you can now call up the map of the region in transparent form by pressing a button. So you always keep an overview of your current position – even in the branched areas that the world of Xenoblade Chronicles ready for you. You can now enjoy them in HD optics for the first time. Character models have also been revised. Their gestures and facial expressions now look much more realistic.

Two changes that are very important to me personally are that both the in-game combat menu and the inventory itself have been very well structured and not overloaded. Finding your way around was one of my main problems with Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

All new epilogue

For the Definitive Edition, Monolithsoft goes even further into the bag of tricks and presents us with a completely new story that is supposed to be an epilogue to the main game. I haven’t touched this one yet, because I’m not through with the game myself and the game explains to you before the start of the epilogue that it’s recommended to complete the main story first. Nice, to be honest I have seen it differently. I am particularly looking forward to this part. Maybe new characters, new locations and new melodies await us. The soundtrack was also remastered and re-recorded for this new edition.

With all the innovations and revamped features, you shouldn’t forget one thing: Xenoblade Chronicles is a gigantic game! You still have a little more than two weeks until the release on May 29th. Time. So if you are now in Xenoblade fever, there is actually only one thing left for you to do. Grab your cell phone, call your boss and take the entire first week of June off to enjoy this game to the fullest and now in all its glory.
