Xelajú beat Club Deportivo FAS, from El Salvador, 2-1 this Wednesday, with an outstanding performance by its captain, the Costa Rican Kenner Gutiérrez, on the second date of group B of the Central American Cup from CONCACAF.
The experienced Gutiérrez, 34, was in charge of opening the scoring for Xelajú, beating goalkeeper Kevin Carabantes via a penalty kick in the 25th minute, at the Pensativo stadium, in western Guatemala.

To widen the difference, the Guatemalan midfielder Hugo del Cid appeared, with a good individual play in which he eluded two FAS defenders and put the ball in the lower right corner of the goal, at minute 31.
Xelajú, led by the Guatemalan Amarini Villatoro, controlled most of the match with more than 300 completed passes and six shots on goal.
For their part, Deportivo FAS found discount in the 71st minute, when midfielder Wilma Torres surprised with a powerful shot into the upper corner of the Xelajú goal.
Before the discount, the FAS made at least five dangerous shots, but frustrated by the Panamanian goalkeeper José Calderón, key to avoiding the distribution of points.
The Salvadorans went on the attack in the last 15 minutes of the game, however, the effort was not enough to salvage a point in Guatemala.
Xelajú’s victory assured them second place in group B with three points, behind Real Estelí, from Nicaragua, which is in the lead with two victories in a row.
