Microsoft may be preparing to host an event aimed at the Bethesda acquisition, it is alleged.
The claim comes from Jeff Group, a journalist at Games Beat, who said a lot about The Beat Games decides to podcast Last weekend. “I don’t know if it will be a full fledged direct style event, but they will cast it and talk about it at length, explain what that means to everyone and talk about the near future for both companies to become one,” Group said about the unannounced event.
“Yes, he expected this to happen sometime in mid-March,” Group concluded. Elsewhere, the journalist revealed that this was one of Microsoft’s “ milestones ” for getting new information ahead of E3 2021, which will currently take place in digital form in June 2021 (the event was canceled completely in June 2020 last year).
There’s a big reason Microsoft is delaying until next March for a Bethesda-focused event. Earlier this month, it was reported that Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda will be reviewed in the European Union on March 5, letting regulators decide whether the deal can go through. If the deal gets the green light, this will be the final hurdle Microsoft will have to overcome before the deal is officially closed, so an event will be held without hesitation to reveal new details about the acquisition.
There are only positive comments on the deal from both Microsoft and Bethesda so far. Since closing the deal in September 2020, Dishonored CEO Harvey Smith has said the two companies are “a perfect match,” while Xbox Chairman Phil Spencer believes the company will become an RPG force once the acquisition is completed.
