Xbox icon Larry Hryb is retiring after two decades
He intends to cut himself off completely from the events at Microsoft
He was paid tribute not only by his close associates, but also by his fierce rivals
It has been associated with the Xbox brand for many years, and many gamers cannot imagine the entire platform without it. We are talking about the icon of the gaming platform from Microsoft, Larry Hryb, the man who stood at the very birth of the Xbox and was its marketing face for 20 years. He was known to players mainly by his nickname Major Nelson, through which he operated, for example, an official podcast, a Twitter account with more than 1 million followers and a variety of video content. However, he served as director of programmers at the company and spent two years at MSN Music before moving to Xbox.

“After twenty amazing years, I’ve decided to take the next step and work on a new chapter in my career,” he wrote on his Twitter. “When I take a moment to think about what we’ve accomplished together, I want to thank the millions of players around the world for whom I’ve become a part of their lives.” After the announcement of the end of the Xbox team, a number of personalities praised his work, for example the boss himself Phil Spencer or official account rival PlayStation. He also recalled funny moments from mutual cooperation Ralph Jodice, who, together with his PR agency, looks after the public image of Xbox. However, a well-known Czech video game journalist also paid tribute to Hryb Pavel Dobrovsky.

Larry Hryb hasn’t revealed what his next career move will be, but he’ll likely be enjoying some time off with his family in Seattle over the summer. For now, he only hinted at the future of the official Xbox podcast, which he says will take a break over the summer before returning in a new format. What is behind the decision to end a long career is not known, but it may be part of a large layoff.
