Xbox bets on nostalgia with “GoldenEye 007”, the historic James Bond game

In another era, the world of video games seemed to belong almost exclusively to children. However, the debate is old and in recent years it is increasingly common to see gamers of all ages. And that is also noticed by the companies, which are more frequently aiming their titles at a broad audience and, on some occasions, avid for a somewhat nostalgic remake.

For this audience, Xbox has a plan. And it must be said, he executes it perfectly. This is the “Rare Replay” collection, which brings titles from the Rare company, a total reference in the gamer world of years past, and remasters them in 4K. And now he announced the arrival of “GoldenEye 007”, the James Bond title that gave hours and hours of entertainment to young people -and not so young- in the 90’s.

That title emerged in 1997, and was presented as a shooting game but also stealth, in which we had to avoid being discovered in our missions. In addition, it offered a multiplayer mode, in which we could fight with our friends on a split screen.

It must be said that “GoldenEye 007” meant a paradigm shift for shooter games (or FPS) at that time, transforming them to a level of complexity and entertainment rarely seen. That category of games used to be clunky and predictable, with annoying controls. And here was a completely reverse scenario. It was, perhaps, one of the most important games in history and also, sometimes and depending on the mission, one of the most difficult.

On this occasion, the “new” old version also allows additional configurations for the joystick, adds several achievements to complete and It even allows you to adapt the resolution from the original 16: 9 of the title at that time to 4K Ultra HD.

For those with Game Pass, Xbox’s awesome subscription service, the game will be available for free.; as well as for those who have purchased the “Rare Replay” collection. At the moment it cannot be purchased outside of these packs.

The “Rare Replay” collection, which includes more than 30 titles such as “Perfect Dark”, “Banjo-Kazooie” or “Viva Piñata”, costs almost $7,000; while the monthly cost of the Game Pass service is $1,050 (including taxes), although there are promotions for annual payment.
