Xbox 360 Exclusive Shadowrun Returns: Servers Reset After 16 Years

An Xbox 360 console exclusive game has returned from the grave, 16 years after its initial release in 2007. One of the strengths of owning an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S is the robust backwards compatibility support that allows next-gen owners to play not just Xbox One games, but also Xbox 360 games and even some games from the first Xbox from the PS1 days.

This has recently allowed some chapters of the Call of Duty franchise to return, much to the delight of nostalgics. Now, as ComicBook also reported, either console can now once again play a little gem for Xbox 360 called Shadowrunafter Microsoft reset the game servers.

The Xbox 360 exclusive’s servers were never formally taken offline, but the title became impossible to play due to a server problem.

Although Microsoft has not released an official statement, the servers have clearly been revamped and, according to players, the situation looks better than 16 years ago.

One discord server which has over 2,000 members rose to prominence on ResetEra, aiming to revive the Xbox 360 exclusive. And so far it seems to be working. To get in on the action, you can buy the game from the Microsoft Store or join the aforementioned Discord server, which apparently has access codes to the game.

If you haven’t heard of it, Shadowrun is a first-person shooter released in 2007 by developer FASA Interactive and publisher Microsoft Game Studios, now known as Xbox Game Studios.
