Xavier Mbuyamba is officially the 3rd Blues rookie after Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. The young Oranje leaves FC Barcelona for Chelsea as announced on the club’s website.
Mbuyamba’s arrival had been in the air for a while, but the final formalities took a long time. Now, his transfer is confirmed, he has signed a contract with Chelsea until 2023. He will join the London Youth Academy to continue his progression before glimpsing a passage to the elite.
Eighteen-year-old Mbuyamba made the transfer from MVV to Barcelona a year ago. He joined Barça U19 and even trained with the first team a few times,
Mbuyamba is considered “the new Virgil van Dijk”. The goal of the Chelsea defender is to quickly join the first team and the armada of young prodigies of Frank Lampard.
