the essential A company that is on the rise is that of Xavier Marquié, marble worker in Capvern who has just been awarded the Septet stamped “Special Prize of the Occitanie Region”.
Created to reward innovation in the region, the Septuors Trophies ceremony is a major operation to highlight departmental entrepreneurs across Occitanie. an event initiated by the “La Dépêche du midi” Group and which, each year, highlights the know-how in each department. On the border of the Hautes-Pyrénées and Haute-Garonne, in Capvern, Xavier Marquié has been practicing his trade as a marble worker for many years and after having made a big leap in the digitalization of his equipment, he proudly brandishes his statuette, that of the special price from the Occitanie Region, awarded only a few days ago. An expertise which also earned him a visit from the vice-presidents of the Region who worked alongside him (see our December 28 edition).
It must be said that it is like true artists that Xavier Marquié and his teams work this noble material as has been recalled: “Marble has made the reputation of the Pyrenees since Antiquity. It makes the reputation of La Maison des Cailloux, in Capvern, like other stones from the Pyrenees, slates, limestone, sandstone, quartzites, granites… For four years, the company has invested 500,000 euros in three numerically controlled machines which allow it to produce more technical pieces. Xavier Marquié is proud of his work, which he does with meticulousness and precision: “We kept the finish by hand to keep the patina. This time saving allows us to avoid recruitment problems.”

A plus for the business manager who entered the specialty out of passion: “I am originally from Sarrancolin and the quarry was reopened by my father, who was then the mayor of the town, twenty years ago. something that immediately attracted me and so I started studying to be a marble worker after going through accounting and I settled in. I bought this company, La Maison des Cailloux, in 1997 and since then, here, we try to perpetuate the traditions of Pyrenean marble-making.”
A Septet will now take pride of place right next to the prize won by his apprentice a few months ago, a distinction of which he is proud and he even has some suggestions to make to the organizers for future editions: “We could imagine a Septet trophy with a marble foot, I can take care of it, it would be very classy” adds the marble worker with a smile.
He also has other reasons to be optimistic with a project to open a new quarry near Hèches, without forgetting the launch of the merchant site where customers can place orders, a new step in the future.
A cycle rich in new developments, which bodes well for a future which promises to be under the best auspices.
