Xavi Simons has left PSV’s training camp in Austria to complete a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. The French top club seems to be making use of the buy-back option of 6 million euros.
PSV surprised last summer by loosening twenty-year-old Simons at PSG. It was later announced that the superpower had the option of bringing Simons back to Paris through a buyback clause until mid-2024.
After PSG had announced that it wanted to take over Simons again, it was up to the Orange international himself to determine whether he wanted to leave PSV after a year. After much deliberation, Simons has now opted for a return to France, much to the disappointment of PSV.
PSV reportedly tried to keep Simons by offering him a new contract. The attacker took part in the won exhibition game against Blau Weiss Linz (1-2) on Saturday.
National coach Ronald Koeman said earlier that he hoped that Simons would stay with PSV with a view to playing time and development.
It is expected that Simons will not get many playing minutes at PSG if top players such as Kylian Mbappé and Neymar do not leave Paris. Possibly ‘les Parisiens’ will rent out the top talent next season. Simons made seven appearances in the first team in his first period at PSG.

Simons took PSV by the hand
Simons signed a contract with PSV until mid-2027 last summer. The attacker grew into a tastemaker in the team of trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij, who left PSV just before the end of the season.
The attacker came into action 49 times for PSV. He scored nineteen times and provided nine assists. He also made his debut in Orange during his time at PSV. He made his first playing minutes for the Netherlands in the World Cup match with the United States (3-1 win).
Simons won both the Johan Cruijff Shield and the KNVB Cup with the Eindhoven club. PSV finished second in the Eredivisie behind champion Feyenoord.
