Xavi Simons is still disappointed by Ruud van Nistelrooij’s departure from PSV. The twenty-year-old attacking midfielder saw a like-minded person in the former top striker, he says in de Volkskrant.
“We are the same types. I saw myself a bit in him. I also experience how he experiences football. That passion and willpower are in me. He brought me to PSV and put me on the podium. That I am now with the Dutch team is also a bit because of him.” says Simons.
The playmaker saw that Van Nistelrooij was also working on getting better every day. “You can dream well, but you have to do everything you can to make those dreams come true. I saw it in him: how he entered competitions or meetings. I wish him all the best. For me it was an honor to work with Van Nistelrooij to work.”
The fact that Simons was mentioned as one of the players who had complained about the trainer bothered him a lot. “That did something to me, because I am close to him. I went straight to him and explained to him what happened. Fortunately, everything is good between us.”
Arsenal
Whether Simons himself will stay with PSV is still uncertain. Arsenal are clearly interested. “I don’t know yet. I’m now with the Dutch national team, I’m going to work here for two weeks and then we’ll see what happens. Soon we will decide together with family what is best for me.”
