After Jürgen Klopp announced that he does not intend to continue as coach of Liverpool after the end of the season, the rumors about who will replace him have heated up.
However, Alonso recently announced that he is choosing to stay in Germany and Leverkusen until next season.
In an interview with TalkSport, the Spaniard now talks about why he chose to stay at the German top club.
– There were many reasons (to stay at the club). After one year, we have built a good team, we have a good atmosphere here, he says and continues:
I don’t feel like it’s the right time to leave.
– There were so many reasons and so many players. The season has been fantastic so far and of course we want to continue to build on this together. I feel involved here. After a year I don’t feel it’s the right time to leave and that’s why I’m staying.
However, Alonso, who was also chased by Bayern Munich, does not close the door to coaching a club in the Premier League in the future.
– You never know. At the moment I have a lot to think about, but I am still a young coach and it is clear that it is an interesting path, he says.
Bayer Leverkusen top the Bundesliga with 16 points, and the team is also unbeaten in all competitions this season.
Earlier this week it was reported that Liverpool would instead verbally agree with Sporting’s coach Rúben Amorim.
However, Amorim has denied the rumors that an agreement has been reached during the day.
