Despite court orders, X’s service could not be restored for two months, due to which millions of Twitter users are suffering.
X is considered the authoritative source of latest status and news across the world, including Pakistan, and millions of people around the world use Twitter to get updates.
X’s service was shut down after videos of alleged rigging emerged during Pakistan’s elections and elections in February, but the federal government, including the PTA, did not admit to shutting down its service.
In March last month, Dawn News received a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the PTA to shut down the service of X, which also instructed to suspend the service of Twitter.
A letter was written by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the PTA on February 17, 2024, ordering the immediate closure of X. The text of the letter said that X’s service should be suspended until further orders. The said letter was submitted by the lawyer of PTA in the Sindh High Court during the hearing of the case of closure of X.
The court has sought a response from the Ministry of Interior by April 17 regarding the suspension of Twitter’s service.
