Suara.com – A team scientist conservationists recently conducted a 230-year-old correspondence between Marie Antoinette and his close friend (and rumored lover).
Reportedly named Axel von Fersen, a Swedish nobleman.
The study was also able to reveal the edited portions of the eight letters exchanged between the two.
The research team used X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, a well-proven method of looking at the chemistry of historic inks, to reveal what was written beneath the later scribbles, which was done with iron ink.

Underneath those sensors, the team found words that strangers thought were too sensitive to see daylight.
They even discovered that some of the letters that Marie Antoinette thought were in the hands of someone else were able to identify the culprit.
Reported from Gizmodo, Monday (4/10/2021), this team’s research was published in Science Advances.
“Many of the letters that Marie-Antoinette wrote were copied by Fersen,” Anne Michelin, a conservationist at the Center de Recherche sur la Conservation and lead author of the study, told Gizmodo.
According to him, either because the originals were originally encrypted (to prevent correspondence from being read by anyone, some letters were also encrypted) or simply because it was common practice at the time.

He added that political reasons can explain the existence of these copies, for their safety, sometimes the author of the letter cannot be identified.
