Social network X, formerly known as Twitter, will move headquarters from San Francisco to Texas, according to an internal email from CEO Linda Yaccarino seen by The New York Times. The workforce will move to existing offices in San Jose and a new engineering-focused office will open in Palo Alto. Yaccarino stressed in her email that this decision will have a significant impact on many employees, but is the right one for the company in the long term. Elon Musk, who took over the social network in 2022, already expressed plans to move both X and SpaceX’s headquarters to Austin, Texas, last month. The move comes due to a new California law that prohibits school districts from informing parents of a change in their child’s gender identity. Musk declared this as the “last straw,” stressing that laws like this one attack both families and businesses. In response to Musk’s decision, California Governor Gavin Newsom accused the entrepreneur of allegedly subordinating himself to external forces. Musk himself is also under pressure from lawsuits filed by former employees who are still demanding severance payments totaling $500 million. The final move of X’s headquarters is expected to take place in the near future, joining SpaceX and Tesla in the state of Texas. The property management company Shorenstein, which manages X’s office building in San Francisco, has not yet issued a statement.
