A sparkling and energetic performance in Barbieland style: Francesca Michielin inaugurated the X Factor 2023 Live shows to the tune of ‘Flowers’ by Miley Cyrus and ‘Dance The Night’ by Dua Lipa. Wanting to party, of course, but without losing sight of current events with the message launched by the video walls: “Make art not war”.
Ambra risks sinking Matteo Alieno, rating: 5
The assignment of Annalisa’s “Bellissima” to Matteo Alieno turned out to be a bit unfortunate. Fedez didn’t appreciate it, and the already shy Matteo found himself having to defend himself: «I didn’t want to rewrite the melody, I simply lived it. It wasn’t my intention to rewrite the song, I would never dare.” With Morgan, on the other hand, the dissing directly against the original song took place (score 4): «I am alien to this situation. You could sing anything, you sang a piece that I don’t even know, which seems incredibly banal to me. It doesn’t seem like anything special to me, from a harmonious point of view it doesn’t exist. He could do “La donna cannone” by De Gregori, what is this piece? I live outside the world, I’m old, I’m already dead, I’ve been dead for centuries. You are so good that you gave an incredible nobility to a piece that I absolutely would not have considered if it weren’t for you and Ambra, so I thank you. It seemed like a noble piece.” The reaction, entrusted to a tweet, from Davide Simonetta (one of the two authors of Annalisa’s song, together with Paolo Antonacci): «Never a success and it explains things. Morgan and musicsplaining, rating: 4
The Lives have just started, and – no surprise – Morgan is already irrepressible. He experienced Francesca Michielin’s attempts to contain it with irritation, and the debate on the Animaux Formidables added more fuel to the fire. «The piece was ambitious – Ambra said to the former Bluvertigo – you are ambitious and you gave it to him out of ambition. I hear the drums going out of time, I say it from the Auditions but I’m not credible so I mind my own business, in my opinion the assignment penalized you enough”. Even for Fedez the drums were still out of time, which distracted him during the performance. «All this controversy about going in time is an opportunity to point out how we are in a world of perfectinism – replied Morgan -, where everything must be square, and when there is something that goes outside the limits we let’s scandalize”. “But sorry, you were scandalized by Matteo’s melody”, Ambra replied piqued. “I wasn’t scandalised, I said that it was bad, that it was something different. Ambra, let me explain: the song you chose was banal, harmonically non-existent. Do you know what a C Major is? Yes? Can you explain it to me?
Sarafine, Fedez’s bet (won for now), rating: 7
«In addition to being a producer, she is very good and has an enchanting voice. For me, her creativity is the most stimulating thing.” With Sarafine Fedez doesn’t have to do much: just let her creative flair have free rein. The competitor managed to make Bizet’s masterpiece, the Habanera aria from Carmen, contemporary by crossing it with dubstep. Dargen: «This choice was not immediate, we have a champion who in the Auditions brought with her a doubt: will she have the cunning necessary to enter the world of recording? What you have staged gives us hope, congratulations.”

The other three judges got so “extended” with their arguments that Dargen practically fell off the table during this first Live. Given his debut (and given that next to him sits a personality that alone makes for three) in the next episodes he will have to work hard to carve out some space for himself.
Maria Tomba indiavolata, rating: 8
From life with the nuns to Zucchero’s “Diavolo in me”, without going beyond the start. “Even the devil is happy, he took a tour of the audience. His performances attack the life of those who don’t have it.” This is how Ambra described Maria Tomba’s fireworks performance. Dargen is also enthusiastic: «Compared to all the others, this girl has the gift of already being somewhere else, she is already at her concerts, this is the opening of her live show. This thing happens from the very first performance.” And she goes unbalanced (despite not having her on the team): “I won’t deny that she is perhaps my favorite this year”.

At the end of the episode the judges had to choose who to eliminate between Asia and the Animaux Formidables, and the elimination of the duo by Dargen and Ambra sent Morgan into a rage: “It was unfair”. «I asked you if tonight you wanted to choose the TILT (the mechanism which, in the event of a tie between the judges, entrusts the final judgment to the public at home, ed.) and you told me “no, let’s vote” and now that we have voted you don’t agree,” Dargen replied. «I thought you were mature!». At least they took responsibility for the elimination rather than slipping behind the screen of public judgment.
