Argentine Miguel Angel Jamondi, coach of Moroccan Wydad, confirmed that he will avoid the mistakes that occurred in the face of going against Al-Ahly, stressing the team’s ability to turn the balance with what it will present in the second leg on Friday evening.
Al-Ahly will host the Wydad team at Cairo Stadium at nine o’clock this evening, Friday, in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final round.
Jamondi said, in statements carried by the Moroccan newspaper, “The Moroccan National Team”: “What happened at the go was really strange, and I would not like to go back to dig into its details, because chapters that occurred at the last moment confused and shaken decisions, plan and tactics.”
He added, “It was natural that Wydad appeared in this way and I am responsible for all of that of course, but that sting will not be repeated with me, so I will not be stung twice from the same hole.”
He continued: “The unfortunate fact is that I followed all the analyzes that took place at Wydad as if it was a ghost in the match. We wasted a penalty kick that could have completely changed the reality of the confrontation, and with it, the current debate.”
He explained, “We missed many opportunities, and the evidence is that their goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Shenawi, was chosen as the star of the match, which means that we put him under pressure and testing.”
He continued: “I do not have more to add, football. Our return to scenes outside expectations. We need an early goal in today’s match, as they did on our soil, and after that everything is subject to change.”
Wydad coach concluded his remarks, saying: “They know very well that the match will not be easy for them, and we come to the Cairo match as if it were a final match. We must win to win its title, and this is what we came for.”
Al-Ahly will enter the return match, armed with the precious victory they achieved in the first leg a few days ago in Casablanca, with two unanswered goals, scored by Mohamed Magdi Afsha and Ali Maaloul.
Al-Ahly is looking forward to deciding to qualify for the final of the African Champions League for the 13th time in its history, and to move towards regaining its favorite title in order to enhance its record in the number of times the Champions League has been won 8 times.
