WWI machine gun stolen from Long Island, valued at $20,000

The New York Police Department reported that a German MG-08 machine gun, used in World War I, was stolen over the weekend on Long Island.

One or several well-trained burglars, authorities say, removed the old weapons from the Suffolk County Marine Corps Detachment on Bay Shore.

Anthony Siano, a veteran of the United States Air Force, told local media, “Originally it was in the front (the machine gun), but we decided to put it on the roof because we thought someone would steal it.”

According to the authorities, it is believed that those who did it knew exactly how to carry out the robbery, since to get to the old machine gun they had to knock down more than 100 pounds of metal from the ceiling.

“Anyone had the idea to sell it, maybe to a collector,” said Carmine Raineri, a member of the Suffolk Marine Corps League. And it is that the machine gun is valued at $20,000 dollars.

They also assured that the weapons are inoperable and worthless if the record they record is not evidenced.
