Vanessa Borne was one of the superstars who were fired by WWE in mid-May. Despite ascending to roster main of the company, he did not make his debut either on RAW or on SmackDown. Chelsea Green revealed that WWE rejected the idea of presenting a female faction formed by her, Borne and Santana Garrett, which was to be “a cross between Pussycat Dolls and Charlie’s Angels.”
Borne was recently interviewed by Mike Johnson of PWInsider. Among other things, Borne spoke about his rise to the roster WWE main, about his return to NXT and about his dismissal. The most prominent statements below, transcript courtesy of Fightful.
I was looking forward to working with Chelsea Green and Santana Garrett
“When they told me I was going to move up, I couldn’t believe it. I was like ‘Are you sure?’ I wasn’t getting too much of a limelight in NXT, but after working so hard at the Performance Center, hearing this news was like ‘all my effort has been worth it’. I really wanted, especially because it was Paul Heyman who decided to promote me and I have him as a reference for areas such as storytelling or work with the microphone. I want to be like him. It was encouraging.
I spent a few weeks on and off RAW and SmackDown and it was in March that my rental agreement in Orlando expired, so I returned to Arizona. Then came COVID. They stopped bringing me to television and things changed. Everyone had to navigate through this. I was home for six months and it was tough. When the pandemic situation calmed down, they brought me back to Chelsea (Green) and Santana (Garrett). They told us we were going to be a threesome, and I really wanted it. Working with people who are so close to you is a lot of fun. We all have different ideas. We all receive contracts from roster principal. Nevertheless, the plans did not come to fruition and the idea was scrapped. I have a feeling this is something that happens a lot. “
They proposed to join RETRIBUTION
“After this, they called me and They asked me to be part of RETRIBUTION. I really wanted to work on television, but I had a lot of questions. He wanted to know what the group was about and how he could fit into it. Some things worried me because, at that time, violence was spreading in the country and we were watching the situation unfold. It wasn’t a pretty thing. I wanted to know if the group was going to imitate these acts. I expressed my concerns, but they told me what their intentions were and how I could help. After a week, I received a call from Mark Carano and he said ‘you are not going to be part of RETRIBUTION and we are going to withdraw your contract. You’re going back to NXT. ‘
I felt like I had been kicked straight to the stomach. I didn’t want them to think that it seemed like a bad idea or that I didn’t want to be part of what they proposed to me. I would have done anything. After talking, I texted him and said ‘I’m sorry if it seemed like you didn’t want to be a part of this. I am here to work. I’m willing to do whatever it takes. ‘ He just replied ‘this is where we are’. I still think about it and I torture myself. I should have said yes and been happy with it. I was happy for the opportunity, but maybe they had another impression. Lesson learned”.
He proposed several ideas to return to NXT
“When I came back to NXT, after some time to digest the facts, I was still happy to have a job. I spoke with Canyon Ceman and told him that I was ready to go back to Florida. We spoke and he said they wanted to have me back at the Performance. Center, because I hadn’t been in a ring for about nine or ten months. I went back to the Performance Center to train for a couple of weeks and it was great. I was constantly going to the gym and was in good shape. I felt like I was flying through the ring. ring and that I hadn’t lost an iota of my athleticism.
In my second week there, I caught COVID. This was the last time I stepped foot in the Performance Center, because then the holidays started. We reached the new year and I had no news of anything, so I needed to clarify things. I texted Triple H and he put me in touch with an NXT writer and we came up with several ideas to come back. There were a lot of ideas, but when you have so many characters and so many stories, this becomes a giant puzzle. In the end, nothing was decided. I did not receive a response to the last message I sent and, a week later, I was fired“.
