Earlier this week, WWE star Rey Mysterio anticipated that he was in the process of making a major announcement that would change his career story. The announcement concerned a project that Mysterio had been in the pipeline for a while. A press release this afternoon announced Rey Mysterio vs. La Oscuridad, an animated series developed by Mysterio and the studio ¡Viva Calavera! for Cartoon Network America Latina.
The plot
Described as an action and comedy show, Rey Mysterio vs. La Oscuridad will follow Mysterio and a wrestling fan named Oscar (coincidentally Mysterio’s real name) as they battle the forces of evil. The show’s main villain will be a character named Uroboros, an evil fighter who uses dark forces he doesn’t even understand.
The press release explains that the series will debut on Cartoon Network Latin America in 2022, with ten episodes. Although Mysterio currently works for WWE, no mention was made of Vince McMahon’s company in the press release, implying that they have no role in this production.
