WWE Friday Night SmackDown #1188 (Tapings: 22. April 2022)
Ort: MVP Arena in Albany, New York, USA
U.S. Original Airdate: April 29, 2022
Spectators: approx. 6,700

Due to the forthcoming European tour, an additional episode was taped after the previous edition of SmackDown aired. Michael Cole and Pat McAfee welcome viewers to a new installment of Friday Night Smackdown. After the two have gone through today’s match card, Drew McIntyre’s music plays and the first match of the evening begins.

1. Match
Steel Cage Match
Drew McIntyre defeated Sami Zayn via a pin from the claymore kick.
Match time: 10:25

We see the pictures of the signing ceremony between Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair. This ended in a brawl and Drew Gulak ended up in Rousey’s Cross Armbar. But now Kayla Braxton has the reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion on the mic. This announces that Rousey will tap on “WrestleMania Backlash” and thus disappear from WWE again. But today she will already win the announced “I Quit Beat The Clock Challenge”.

But now it’s time for the “Happy Talk”. Instead, the host, Happy Corbin, comes to the ring in his usual happy manner. The “Happy Talk” is new and improved as his former best friend Madcap Moss is no longer a part of the show. Incidentally, he never found this funny and he will not have a chance against Corbin in the future. So he promises the WWE Universe that he’ll win WrestleMania Backlash because he’s the reason Madcap Moss is relevant in the first place. He created it and will stamp it again. For this he will destroy the trophy of the “André The Giant Memorial Battle Royale”, which is the talk show’s guest tonight. While Corbin is still talking, he doesn’t realize that Madcap Moss is now in the ring. A brawl then ensues in the ring, which Moss clearly wins. Corbin flees the ring, his former student celebrates with the fans and the trophy is unharmed.

A quick recap from last week shows how Shanky challenged reigning Intercontinental Champion Ricochet. For this he now comes to the ring.

2. Match
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Singles Match
Ricochet (c) defeated Shanky (w/ Jinder Mahal) via pin after a roll-up.
Match time: 3:25
-Jinder Mahal intervened a few times in the match.

After the match, Shanky and Mahal clash. Jinder Mahal is unhappy with his protégé’s performance. However, Shanky cannot understand the criticism and leaves Mahal alone in the ring. There are indications that the duo will split.

Kayla Braxton, meanwhile, hosts an interview with the newest member of Friday Night SmackDown. Raquel Rodriguez will make her main roster debut today. Although she is excited, she is also full of anticipation and wants to leave a lasting impression.

3. Match
Singles Match
Raquel Rodriguez defeated Cat Cardoza via pin after the Chingona Bomb (One-armed Powerbomb).
Match time: 2:01
-Cat Cardoza attacked her opponent before the match.

This is followed by a speech by Ludwig Kaiser with Gunther at his side. Gunther will pulverize his opponents, honor the sacred mat and protect the principles of this sport. (This segment was held in English and German.)

Now follows the contract signing for the Title Unification Match for the WWE RAW and SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Adam Pierce is also in the ring and explains the details of the contract to everyone involved. The Usos reiterate that they are the best tag team in the industry and will tie the titles together. Riddle replies that he can’t tell the Usos apart and demands name tags for them while complimenting his partner. Randy Orton thanks him and says he has no trouble telling the Usos apart. After all, Jey is the Tribal Chief’s right-hand man and Jimmy is his little bitch. This will result in a brawl, after which the Roman Reigns music will play. This distraction causes both RAW Tag Team Champions to take some super kicks. The head of the table takes the contract and rips it up in front of Riddle. Drew McIntyre then enters the ramp, who unceremoniously dispatches the Usos on the way to the ring. Once there, the Scotsman engages in a short brawl with the leader of the Bloodline. McIntyre knocks Reigns out of the rope area and the two stare down.

After a commercial break, we see Paul Heyman at Adam Pierce. Heyman isn’t happy about what just happened and calls for the match to be altered. He calls for a Six Man Tag Match between Drew McIntyre & RK-Bro vs Roman Reigns & The Usos. While Adam Pierce replies that he can’t take the change lightly, the Tribal Chief’s Special Counsel has threatened to lodge complaints with the board. Pierce can and will make such changes.

4. Match
Singles Match
Naomi (w/ Sasha Banks) defeated Shayna Baszler (w/ Natalya) via pin after a roll-up.
Match time: 2:29

After the match, Natalya attacks the match winner. Sasha Banks manages to provide a brief safe, but the heels regain the upper hand. Shayna Baszler even gets to hit her arm stomp on Naomi, leaving her visibly battered and being tended to by her partner.

A recap shows the end of last week’s match between Xavier Woods and Butch. This attacked some fans and left the hall through the spectator stands and has not been seen since. Sheamus and Ridge Holland can be seen backstage. Both put up some posters of their missing teammate. Both swear to the following match and are sure that they will win this one. After they arrive in the ring, The New Day also enter the ramp. The two make fun of their opponents because they lost their team member so quickly. They also joke about the eventful tag team history of the Celtic Warrior. They list the League of Nations, the Swiss Cyborg, and just now his new faction, earning him the nickname “Shake it Sheamus”.

5. Match
Singles Match
Xavier Woods (w/ Kofi Kingston) defeated Ridge Holland (w/ Sheamus) via pin after the backwoods.
Match time: 8:41

Immediately afterwards, Sheamus challenges Kofi Kingston to a match.

6. Match
Singles Match
Sheamus (w/ Ridge Holland) defeated Kofi Kingston (w/ Xavier Woods) via pin after the brogue kick.
Match time: approx. 3:11 (The match started during the commercial break)
-Heelers hit Faces with a beatdown and Holland powerbombs Woods through a table.
– There are some “Shake it Sheamus” chants during the match.

Here’s a pre-recorded promo by Lacey Evans, retelling part of her life story. In the fourth chapter she talks about being kicked out of home at the age of 17 and joining the Navy. She was the best of her year and also achieved top performances in shooting training. All of the other graduates celebrated their graduation day with their parents and other relatives, but Evan’s family did not attend the ceremony. No matter how hard she tried, she got the love she deserved from her parents. But she used this sadness and anger to continue to achieve top performances. Her story sets her apart from all the other women on the roster. While that doesn’t make her any better than the other Superstars, it doesn’t make her any better than Evans either.

A tag team tables match has been made official for next week Friday. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will face off against Sheamus and Ridge Holland. In addition, Shayna Baszler will meet Sasha Banks.

7. Match
Singles Match – I Quit Beat The Clock Challenge
Ronda Rousey defeated Shotzi via submission after the ankle lock.
Match time: 1:41
-Charlotte Flair sat with the commentary team throughout the match.
The time of 1:41 has to be beaten.

8. Match
Singles Match – I Quit Beat The Clock Challenge
Charlotte Flair vs. Aliyah ended in a time limit draw.
Match time: 1:41
– Charlotte Flair was able to take Aliyah into the figure eight. However, Aliyah managed not to tap until time ran out.

This makes Ronda Rousey the winner of the Beat The Clock Challenge. She leaves the hall cheering while a shocked Charlotte Flair stays in the ring. She takes her frustration out on Drew Gulak again and hits him with a big boot. Flair throws Gulak in the ring and knocks him out with the ring bell, and a slightly cheered SmackDown Champion enjoys the boos from the fans.

With these pictures ends today’s edition of SmackDown.
