WWE Friday Night SmackDown #1157
Ort: Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas, USA
Date: October 22, 2021
Spectators: approx. 4,000

The show opens with a look back at the Universal Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns at yesterday’s PPV show “Crown Jewel” in Saudi Arabia.

Then Michael Cole welcomes us to today’s show, at his side Pat McAfee. The music of Roman Reigns plays, who, together with Paul Heyman and his Universal Championship, makes his way to the ring. Commentators point out that Lesnar has promised to knock Reigns unconscious as soon as he appears on SmackDown. When that will be remains to be seen. Reigns at least has a big grin on his face and lets Heyman pass him a microphone. He asks Heyman who he thinks the title is for – him or Lesnar? Because today he gave him the microphone, but last night he threw the title between Reigns and Lesnar. Reigns describes himself as the best of the best, he’s been wearing WWE for over a year. He goes through all of his nicknames and describes himself as the greatest Universal Champion of all time. He destroyed every adversary. Daniel Bryan, Edge, Cesaro, Finn Balor, John Cena, Brock Lesnar – all destroyed. Speaking of Brock – he would like to hear the wording of the tweet from Heyman, who reads it out. But Reigns doesn’t seem to have more than a tired laugh, he knocks the cell phone out of Heyman’s hand. He doesn’t want to wait any longer, if Lesnar has something up to do, he should come out now. He has no problem spanking Lesnar for two nights in a row. He hands Heyman the microphone and waits, but nothing happens. So Reigns grabs the microphone again and confirms not to leave the ring before Brock Lesnar comes out. But first of all, advertising.

Even afterwards there was no trace of Lesnar. For Reigns, it’s very clear – Lesnar is scared of the Tribal Chief. “We want Lesnar” chants ring out from the audience, Reigns agrees and is downright stunned that he does not come out. Then finally, Lesnar’s music sounds and the giant comes out! Reigns no longer looks enthusiastic when Lesnar storms into the ring and chases him out of the ring within seconds. Lesnar makes short work of Reigns and then stares at Paul Heyman before hitting Reigns with the steel stairs. Next up is the commentary table. Lesnar stands ready to chase Reigns through the table with an F5 – and stands there and stands there and stands there until the Usos have finally run around the ring and can stop him. But they pay for it themselves, before a cameraman is attacked by Lesnar and finally throws a referee and official through the area. Adam Pierce sends out the entire undercard SmackDowns to be briefly buried by Lesnar before he poses in the ring with the title belt. Advertising.

Even after the advertisement, Cole and McAfee are still deeply impressed by Lesnar’s appearance. We see again the repetition of how Lesnar apparently determines the throwing angle at which he wanted to throw Reigns before the Usos stopped him, other scenes of the beatdown are shown again. Adam Pearce is now in the ring and as was to be expected, Lesnar will be suspended until further notice, so his next appearance will probably not be until 2022. “Not on my watch”. McAfee doesn’t like that at all, Lesnar also returns and indicates that he didn’t understand Pearce exactly. He steps into the ring under “Suplex City” chants and snaps Pearce by the collar. He asks Pearce to repeat the words, which Pearce does. Lesnar doesn’t seem enthusiastic and starts laughing. He takes Pearce and shows the F5. “One more time, one more time!” No sooner said than done. Pearce tears his pants, Lesnar leaves the ring. McAfee wonders if Lesnar is still suspended. Cole seems certain that it is. Advertising.

The commercial is over and a flashback of Lesnar’s attack on Pearce is shown. During the promotion, Pearce was helped into the backstage area to the boos of several referees and other officials.

Sonya Deville is on the phone, but is interrupted by Naomi, for whom she has no time, because Naomi wants another (this time fair) match against Deville. But then she has more time for Drew McIntyre, who tells her to go into the ring and see who has the courage to accept his challenge. Swinging his sword, the newcomer is celebrating his comeback at Friday Night SmackDown! He grabs a microphone and wonders who (after 40 minutes of show) would like to finally see some wrestling. The audience cheers, Sami Zayn comes out with a new piece of music! But he also has something to say, because he is the “Lockerroom Leader”, the longest-standing member of SmackDown and Drew McIntyre of Newbee. And as SmackDowns (self-proclaimed) best superstar, he accepts McIntyre’s Challenge.

1. Match
Singles Match
Drew McIntyre won against Sami Zayn via pin after the Claymore Kick.
Match time: 06:47
– Sami Zayn tried to make fun of McIntyre and counted like the Scot “Three, Two, One” – only to really run into the Claymore.

Hit Row will make their SmackDown debut today.

Before that, however, there will be the coronation of King Xavier. Kofi Kingston comes out first, followed by a commercial break. Then Kingston is in the ring in front of a microphone, but first: Match Flo, the final against Finn Balor is summarized. So now finally Kingston is calling out his New Day teammate. “You deserve it” echoes from the audience while Kingston hands over the scepter and crown. Woods thanks the audience for helping him achieve his dream. That is why the “King’s Gospel” is now being read out. “Hail King Woods!” The two of them fool around a bit in the ring before the segment ends.

Becky Lynch is backstage with the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She says she thought briefly about not exchanging the title today, but making a comeback as “Becky Two Belts”.

A preview of Halloween Havoc on NXT is shown.

Michael Cole explains for the third time within ten minutes that today there will be the “Title Exchange” between Charlotte and Lynch at SmackDown.

Xia Li’s debut on SmackDown is hyped. “Coming soon”.

2. Match

Match time: 02:33

Ridge Holland is holding a promo backstage. Aliyah joins directly afterwards. Then it’s Angel Garza & Humberto Carillo’s turn before handing over the baton to Sheamus. After that meaningless minute, Hit Row makes its debut.

3. Match
Tag Team Match
Hit Row (Top Dolla & Isaiah “Swerve” Scott w / B-FAB & Ashante “Thee” Adonis) won against Daniel Williams & Dustin Lawyer via a pin from Scott to Lawyer after a double team move.
Match time: 01:16

A review of what happened around Lesnar today is shown. McAfee will probably never forget Pearce’s ripped pants.

Kayla Braxton is standing by the doctor’s room talking to Deville. She says Pearce will probably get fit again. She criticizes him for doing things his way, despite promising him to personally deliver his suspension to Lesnar. Therefore, until further notice, she will have to manage the fate of the show alone.

Rick Boogs announces Shinsuke Nakamura and, much to Pat McAfee’s delight, guides him to the ring with the electric guitar.

We see again a look back at yesterday’s PPV “Crown Jewel”.

4. Match
Intercontinental Title Contendership – Singles Match
Happy Corbin (w / Madcap Moss) won against Shinsuke Nakamura (w / Rick Boogs) via pin after the End of Days.
Match time: 09:18
– Boogs played something with his electric guitar as always. When Moss tried to stop him, Nakamura was distracted decisively so that Corbin could claim victory.

“Title Exchange” is a good tip for the next drinking game, Michael Cole brings up the topic again. This time around, we also see Charlotte Flair, who suggests that tensions are about to arise.

A review of Lynch’s title defense yesterday is shown, in which she was able to defeat Banks and Belair in a triple threat match, which made the “Title Exchange” necessary in the first place.
Becky Lynch is now coming to the ring too. After the advertisement, Sonya Deville is also there before the music by Charlotte Flair can be heard. When this is finally in the ring, Deville wants to get down to business quickly. She summarizes again why there should be a title swap at all. She wants the swap to take place immediately, but both women cannot really break away from their titles. A few “Becky Two Belts” chants can be heard. Lynch behaves like a five-year-old, at first she knocks the title out of Charlotte’s hand before throwing the blue belt to Flair. The latter is amused and says that if she really wants to be Becky Two Belts, how about “Winner Takes All” today? With three minutes left, maybe not the best idea, but they’ll be interrupted by Sasha Banks anyway, who says the blue show is still hers. Flair asks (twice) whether Banks feels left out? Lynch doesn’t feel like it anymore and says goodbye to RAW. Banks calls Flair B * tch, she replies that this is not nice for a PG show. Banks starts the attack and also gains the upper hand before Deville gains control and separates the two names. That ends today’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
