The trees in Würzburg are suffering greatly from the persistent heat and drought. According to the Garden Office, the situation is very tense. The city waters its almost 40,000 trees with 135,000 liters every day. The city gets its water from wells and the public network, but not from the Main.
The focus is primarily on the ring park, because that’s where the need is greatest. Even the older trees are now affected. Reactions of the trees to the heat and drought include premature discoloration, curling and shedding of the leaves. Sometimes they also throw off their fruit prematurely. Streets like Ludwigstrasse are already looking like the beginning of autumn.
