By general decree, the district office of Würzburg prohibits the withdrawal of water from water bodies of the second and third order from Saturday, August 13, 2022. All rivers, streams, lakes and ponds in the district of Würzburg are affected – with the exception of the Main and Tauber rivers (water bodies of the first order). The reason for the regulation is the long-lasting dry phase.
Restrictions until September 30th
According to the district office, the waters in the Würzburg district are at a very low level. Some of the rivers and streams have already dried up. Since, according to the weather forecast, no precipitation is in sight in the near future, the environmental agency sees no alternative to restricting water withdrawal at least until September 30, 2022.
Water withdrawal allowed in certain situations
There are exceptions, among other things, when it comes to averting danger – for example, when the fire brigade takes water from a stream or pond to extinguish the fire. Removal with hand vessels (e.g. bucket and watering can) remains permitted. Removal with pumps or other machines, however, is prohibited.
Water withdrawal with a special permit is still permitted, for example for sports clubs. However, in certain cases – for example when the water level is particularly low – certain conditions apply. The District Office informs the person concerned of this in a separate notification.
fines for violations
According to the information, the general decree was issued at the suggestion of the Aschaffenburg Water Management Office. Accordingly, violations of the water law regulations can be punished as administrative offenses with fines
