The city of Würzburg is one of the 30 most dynamic districts in Germany. This is demonstrated by the current future atlas of the Prognos economic institute. Here, Würzburg ranks 26th out of a total of 400 cities and districts in Germany. Mayor Christian Schuchardt is pleased with the result, even though the city has slipped two places since the last report in 2019.
Würzburg achieved particularly positive results in the “Demographics” category: the city came in second among all municipalities. This is mainly due to the many students who keep the city young.
The chances on the job market in Würzburg are also good (23rd place in the ranking). On the other hand, the city performs significantly worse in terms of prosperity and competition. Here the city is at 195th and 208th.
Look at the counties
In a national comparison, the Main-Spessart district ranked 84th, the Würzburg district 86th, the Kitzingen district 155th. According to the future atlas, there are little prospects for the future in all three regions. This also shows that the chances of prosperity are significantly higher in rural districts than in the city of Würzburg. The districts of Würzburg and Main-Spessart improved significantly compared to 2019 (149th and 187th place), Kitzingen fared even better in the latest report than this year with 119th place.
The Future Atlas
The future atlas of the Prognos economic institute evaluates the future opportunities and risks of all 400 districts and urban districts in Germany. The social and economic indicators are assessed every three years.
It gives cities, districts and other responsible actors an overview of their region’s performance in a national comparison and where they need to act to position themselves well for the future.
