The publication of the anthology “Würzburg writes a book” was celebrated in the inner courtyard of the town hall with around 400 of the 500 participating elementary school students in the 2nd grades from the city and district of Würzburg. The following information is taken from a press release from the Würzburg Literature Festival.
Author Christian Seltmann read out some exciting passages from the stories of the little authors, sang the detective song together with the children and each child received their own copy of the anthology. Words of welcome were given by the third mayor, Judith Jörg, Elena Riedel from the Literaturhaus eV and Jochen Bähr, Managing Director of Mainlit. spoken.
As part of the Mainlit Literature Festival, the book project was carried out in cooperation with Arena Verlag, the Literaturhaus Würzburg, author Christian Seltmann and a total of more than 500 participating children.
From November 2021 to May 2022, 23 second graders of Würzburg primary schools with around 500 children took part in the contactless reading promotion project “Würzburg writes a book” and worked on their own detective story. This resulted in a total of 18 stories. The aim of the project was to make reading fun and especially to integrate the children whose learning progress has suffered during the pandemic.
Each participating school worked on the project in parallel. This is how many different stories about the “sniffing gang” came about, which have been collected in this book. Each participating child will receive a copy.
The book is available until the end of the summer holidays for 10 euros in the “einmachen design Citystore” at Spiegelstrasse 2 in downtown Würzburg. In addition, copies are included in the loan stock of the city library and the district libraries. The financing of the project was made possible as sponsors by the VR-Bank and the Main-Post.
