Mayor: Würzburg “poorer” without culture

In order to offer a more worthy setting, the city held the ceremony in the Würzburg Congress Center. “Culture is back, but it was never completely gone,” said Mayor Christian Schuchardt (CDU) in his welcoming address. Without culture, Würzburg would be “poorer”. The city’s culture prize is endowed with 5,000 euros.

A voice for the cultural scene

Prizewinner Birgit Süss was born in Augsburg and has lived in Würzburg for many years. She made a name for herself as a presenter, actress and jazz singer. As a cabaret artist, she has performed on the most famous stages in the country. The city of Würzburg praised Birgit Süss as “an important and quite loud voice in the free artist scene”. Süss was committed to other artists during the Corona period. “I’ve learned that it’s important that we stand together and that we have a voice to make ourselves heard,” Süss said in an interview with BR.
