The start of the first home game after 159 days was a disaster for the home team. Not a single point was scored for almost four minutes. Würzburg “only” pulled away to 13:2 (6th) because they also made a lot of mistakes (13 ball losses in the first half). It was a late start for the Baskets after their game against Göttingen was postponed.
Towers coach Benka Barloschky (35) took off his jacket after three minutes and rolled up his shirt sleeves – just like his team. In front of 3,100 fans, they worked their way into the game with strong defense and took the lead for the first time briefly (33:31) in the 19th minute thanks to a layup by VJ King (26). The American had once again received preference for Aljami Durham, who was the seventh foreigner to watch the day after his 25th birthday.

In the third quarter the towers gave the game away. The new balls kept slipping out of their sweaty hands. Würzburg goes on an 18-0 run (!) – the Hamburg team is completely out of control. They accepted their fate without resistance.
Lukas Meisner at Dyn made it very clear: “We received a real slap, that wasn’t enough in every corner and end, then we concede like that here in the first game, that’s not possible. This is one thing we cannot let go. We are not yet mature enough as we need to be in this league.”
The Towers will play their third game in six days on Wednesday. At the start of the EuroCup they have to play against the Ukrainian representative BC Prometey (6 p.m., Magenta Sport), which plays its home games in Riga/Latvia instead of in the war zone in Slobozhanske.
