Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that Geely is interested in making a national electric car. Wuling is known to be a pioneer of electric cars in Indonesia. How did Wuling respond to this news?
Wuling Motors Brand & Marketing Director explained that his party supports the electric vehicle roadmap in Indonesia.
“What is clear is that we support the government’s program to accelerate electrification, especially when talking about global new energy vehicles, whether electric or hybrid. Whatever the government’s policy, we believe it is actually the best for Indonesia, and we want to follow the roadmap and milestones launched by the government for industry Indonesian automotive,” said Dian in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
One form of Wuling’s compliance is by increasing the level of domestic content (TKDN). Now Wuling Air ev has reached TKDN of 40 percent. The Chinese manufacturer will use more domestic components.
“We are on the way to 60 persen,” ujar Dian.
Regarding TKDN, it has been regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 concerning the Acceleration of the Battery Electric Vehicle Program for Road Transportation.
For four-wheeled vehicles or more, domestic component levels are as follows:
1) from 2019 to 2021, TKDN is a minimum of 35 percent
2) from 2022 to 2023, TKDN will be at least 40 percent
3) from 2024 to 2029, TKDN will be at least 60 percent
4) In 2030 and beyond, TKDN will be at least 80 percent
Wuling admits that the battery component is the reason why the price of electric cars is still expensive. For this stage, Wuling is carrying out strategic collaboration with Gotion Green Energy Solutions Indonesia (Gotion Hi-Tech).
Gotion Hi-Tech is a global company that invests in Indonesia to manufacture electric vehicle batteries.
“What is clear is that Gotion is currently involved in batteries. Gotion will invest and produce batteries here,” said Dian.
News of the national electric car spread after Coordinating Minister Luhut visited the Geely factory in China, where he offered the company directly to help Indonesia make a national electric car. Luhut claimed that Geely also agreed to the invitation. Moreover, the government promised to supply Geely with its nickel needs.
“We’ve seen the place, yesterday we came, I made an offer to him. ‘Hey, do you want to make it in Indonesia, but make it an Indonesian brand, but do research with Indonesia.’ He said he wanted to,” said Luhut at the IKAXA National Seminar, Thursday (14/9/2023).
“When else will we have Indonesian cars, so let’s do research together,” he stressed.
