Wu Jiaqian: The Journey of a Cross-Media Worker, Kobe Bryant, and the “Nothing to Lose” Mentality

[Tilu Exclusive Interview]Wu Jiaqian, who was born as a journalist, has transformed into a cross-media worker in recent years, but he has always been inseparable from sports throughout his life. When Jia Qian was a student, he represented his school in the basketball elite competition and participated in the NIKE LEAGUE. When he grew up, he not only interviewed and reported on international and local basketball in the workplace, but also strongly supported the reform and development of the academic elite competition, and even established a media organization and the Mediators basketball team composed of cross-media workers. In addition to enjoying the fun of basketball, he also hopes to bring more positive effects to everyone through basketball. Jia Qian is able to take care of work, family and life in a reasonable way, and he seems to be a model of the “Victory Team in Life”. However, he admitted to “Ti Lu” that he has encountered “high walls that cannot be shaken” many times in his life. Only by cultivating the spirit of “no gain or loss” on the basketball court can you “learn from failure and push yourself toward victory.”

Jiaqian has fallen in love with long-distance running in recent years and uploads running details on social platforms from time to time. However, as we all know, basketball is his favorite, and it has brought different inspiration and understanding to his life. During his schooling days, Jia Qian represented his school in academic elite competitions, but his memories are very painful: “My opponents at that time were famous players such as Li Weilun, Zhang Jinzhou, and Pan Zhihao. I was fired by the National People’s University by dozens of points! I couldn’t win at all.” ! But being able to reach the elite tournament is already a great achievement in itself!”

Like many basketball people, Jiaqian also regards Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant as his idols. Compared to the god-like Jordan, Kobe is more like his life mentor. Kobe Bryant’s nickname is “Black Mamba”, which originally refers to a venomous snake on the African grasslands. The “Mamba Spirit” he pursues is a combination of passion, persistence, strict requirements, perseverance and fearlessness.

“Kobe has a saying, ‘Rest at the end, not in the middle’, that is to say, as a player, you may not choose to rest until you retire, but before you retire, don’t think about relaxing or giving up, because the time you can work hard on the court is very limited. . He continued: “I am very afraid that I will have these thoughts in the future, which is why I work hard when I can. I often say that because a person can run and work to his heart’s content, there is actually not too much time. It’s better to try to do it better when you can.”

As for the concept of “no gain or loss”, it comes from Kobe’s words: “Failure doesn’t exist”. “It means that no matter whether you win or lose the game, when you wake up the next morning, you have to prepare for the next battle in the same way. If you win, you have to see how you can go further next time. If you lose, you should reflect on what you did not do well enough. , to ensure that you will not make the same mistake next time; no matter whether you won or lost yesterday, you still have to work hard today; “Nothing to Lose” describes the process of hard work, not just a score. Kobe believes , only when you are afraid of challenges and are unwilling to learn anymore is the real “loser”.”

Regarding another famous saying of Jordan, “I can accept failure, but I cannot accept giving up“Jia Qian also regards it as a golden rule: “Perhaps many people will feel that they have worked hard for a while, but it seems to have no effect. Many people expect to reach the sky in one step, but in fact this thing does not exist. Every day you finish it What you have to do, ask yourself if you think you are better than the day before. If so, continue this mentality and practice. Not for a week, not for a month, but for five years. For ten years, you hope that you can make progress every day and have a better attitude every day. If you keep it up, you will actually see progress.”

“So why does it matter whether you win or lose? In fact, there is no difference in the process. To me, failure does not exist. It just depends on your own personal mentality and whether you have tried your best. . If you really don’t try your best or don’t take yourself seriously, I think these are unsuccessful. Every failure is to cultivate the nutrients for the final victory. I think this matter will play out to the point of “nothing is possible”. The spirit of losing.”

I have known Jia Qian for many years. He worked in a newspaper, interned at a TV station, later became an anchor, and then jumped out of his comfort zone to develop self-media. Everything seemed to be smooth sailing, as if he had never encountered any storms. He responded with a wry smile: “Actually, this is just a story. Hypothetical, of course I have encountered some setbacks in my life, but I was inspired on the basketball court or from interviews with athletes. When you do not do well, the most important thing is to do your best in the whole process. Although the final result is not under your control. People see that I am successful, but in fact I have also put in a lot of efforts that others cannot see. Just like in a dark environment, many people often cannot see when I work hard. But many people see the results you get, and that’s what I want to say, embodying the spirit of ‘nothing to lose’.”

Another thing that Jia Qian and Gao Bi are very similar to is their time management. Kobe practices every morning and once said a famous saying: “Have you ever seen the scene of Los Angeles at 4am“The same is true for Jia Qian, who is already a father: “I am willing to sacrifice my entertainment and rest time, and arrange my own work and exercise time in advance. After having children, my motivation is even greater, because you can waste time. There is almost no time, so in order to prioritize spending time with your children, this can be regarded as ‘nothing to lose’!”

The “NIKE Hong Kong Academic Elite Basketball Competition” will be held on the 3rd and 4th of next month. NIKE has launched the theme T-shirts “Reversal Victory” and “No Gain and Loss” this time. It was conceived by cross-media worker Ng Ka-him and toy designer CHINO LAM The design, combined with the photos of the famous Hong Kong photographer Cheng Shiyong, shares with everyone the inspiration they got from basketball, and then implemented it in life and work, so that they can have the courage to face different difficulties and actively improve themselves.
