Olomouc/Lima. The highly competitive WTT Feeder Olomouc is over for the DTTB aces. The best Germans, Franziska Schreiner and Wim Verdonschot, lost to opponents from China in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Germany will be represented by two players in the round of the best eight for a place in the medal ranks at the WTT Contender Lima on Saturday, which has prize money of 80,000 dollars. Kay Stumper has already reached the quarter-finals. The second participant will be determined at 11.45 p.m. in the German duel between Patrick Franziska and Fanbo Meng.
In Olomouc, China ends the ambitions of the DTTB aces four times
In Olomouc, Franziska Schreiner from Langstadt, seeded fourth, managed a 3-1 victory in the German second round match against Sophia Klee (Weinheim), before Zhu Sibing proved an insurmountable hurdle in the round of 16. Wim Verdonschot had a similar experience. The talented Dortmund player defeated Alan Kumangaliyev (Kazakhstan) before putting up a spectacular performance against Xu Haidong, but was unable to prevent a 0-3 defeat. The same fate had befallen Tom Schweiger in the morning in round two against the Chinese Xiang Peng, seeded first, who also proved too strong for the Schreiner/Schweiger duo in the mixed doubles with Fan Heier.
Franziska wins round of 16 against Meng / Stumper also in quarterfinals
One day after his strong performance against the favored Japanese Yukiya Uda, Kay Stumper was in impressive form in the round of 16 of the Contender Lima and did not allow the Frenchman Florian Bourrassaud to come close to winning a set. On Saturday, the 21-year-old from Düsseldorf will be aiming for a place in the medal ranks. At 6.45 p.m., the German third-place finisher will face either the second-seeded Europe Top 16 winner Darko Jorgic (Slovenia) or the Frenchman Esteban Dorr, who will meet on the night from Friday to Saturday. A second German will be represented in the quarter-finals: the top-seeded eleventh-ranked Patrick Franziska (Saarbrücken). As expected, the former Europe Top 16 winner won the German duel against his national team colleague Fanbo Meng. After the 3-1 victory, Franziska will now face Mexican Rogelio Castro on Saturday at 5.35 p.m.
