WTA Finals. Iga Świątek loses to Coco Gauff. Lots of mistakes made by Polish women – Sport

On Sunday, at the inauguration of the competition in the Orange Group, the second-ranked player in the world ranking won against the Czech Barbora Krejčíková 4:6, 7:5, 6:2. In turn, the American defeated her compatriot Jessica Pegula (No. 6) 6:3, 6:2.

The match was very even in the first games. Both players played point for point, leading long exchanges. At 3-3, Gauff broke the Pole, which turned out to be the turning point of the set. The American won all the remaining games and the first game ended with the score 3:6.

In the second set, Świątek had a great chance to break her opponent in the first set, but despite two break points and three double service faults, Gauff was unable to do so. This trick was successful in the third game, unfortunately in the fourth it was already 2:2 after a disastrous series of mistakes by the Pole.

Once again, the Raszyn team managed to break their opponent in the 7th game. But what good is it, since she gave up the initiative in the next one and the score was 4:4. In the end, Gauff turned out to be better and won 6:4. It was her second victory over a Pole in her career. The meeting lasted one hour and 49 minutes.

Iga Świątek‘s last match of the group phase will be a confrontation with Jessica Pegula. The American lost the previous two matches. The match will take place at 11 on Thursday, November 7. To advance to the semi-finals, the Pole needs not only a victory, but also a win for Gauff against the Czech.
