WSE Champions League Round 2 Highlights: Sporting vs Benfica Derby and FC Porto’s Defeat

All that’s left is the great Lisbon derby, between Sporting and Benfica, to complete the second round of the WSE Champions League group stage. The big highlight of this round was FC Porto’s defeat at SC Tomar.

The Nabantines jumped, moreover, to the leadership of group C, with the triumph over the current European champions. Ricardo Ares’ team opened the scoring, but in the first half, SC Tomar turned the result around. One of the most decisive moments of the challenge was when FC Porto managed a 2-2 draw in the second half, but SC Tomar again took the lead in the following seconds.

This was the third time, in just a few months, that the boys by Nuno Lopes managed to beat FC Porto in Tomar: first it was for the Portuguese Cup, this season for the Elite Cup and now for the Champions League. Still, in this group C, Trissino received and beat Lleida by 8-4. The game became unbalanced in the second half of the second 25 minutes, after the two teams were tied until 3-3. In just over five minutes, the Italian champions reached 7-3 and controlled the challenge.

In France, Oliveirense had some difficulty during the first half, but ended up naturally beating Saint-Omer by 2-4 and is alone at the top of the group, especially because the French had won in the first round of the competition. In Valongo, Renato Garrido’s team dominated the match, but ended up surprised by Lodi, who managed to save the point, with a two-goal draw.

In Group A, Barcelona and OC Barcelos continue to lead and have further widened the gap to Forte dei Marmi and Liceo da Coruña. In Italy, the Catalan team, with João Rodrigues in good form – another goal, beat the Forte by 1-3 and at Riazor, the Minho team from Barcelos were more effective and calm in their approach to the match, winning 2-4.

Finally, in group B, the group of Sporting and Benfica, whose meeting was postponed, due to the football match at a similar time in Alvalade, they saw Calafell beat Reus 4-1 and reach second place on equal terms.

At the beginning of January, the WSE Champions League will resume its journey and some of the main calculations will already begin to be done.
