Wrote history last night – here are the Swedes who were chosen first in the NHL draft

Two Swedes were selected among the top ten in tonight’s NHL draft.

The Detroit Red Wings seized Frölunda’s back talent Simon Edvinsson and Djurgårds forward William Eklund now have their future in the San Jose Sharks.

Jesper Wallstedt wrote history when he was chosen by Minnesota in 20th place – Luleå goalkeeper and Västerås product is the first cage keeper from Sweden to be chosen in the first round.

The surprise with blue-yellow eyes was Leksand talent Isak Rosén who was already chosen in twelfth place by Buffalo – he was expected to go later in the first round according to most preliminary predictions.

In the end, six Swedes were elected in the first round after Boston’s choice fell on Fabian Lysell (21) and Colorado chose HV71’s Oskar Olausson (28).
