Wrong thought, Vietnamese media consider Ronaldo Kwateh a naturalization player for the Indonesian U-23 National Team: Okezone Bola

PHU THU – Vietnamese media, Zing News made a blunder when reporting about the National Team (National Team) Indonesia U-23. The Vietnamese media actually mentioned one of the members of the Garuda Muda squad, namely: Ronaldo Kwateh as a naturalized player.

This was conveyed in a video showing the Garuda Muda squad which had just arrived in Vietnam, last Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Zing News also highlighted two prominent players who are referred to as naturalized players, Marc Klok and Ronaldo Kwateh.

“Two extraordinary naturalized players in the composition of the Indonesian U-23 National Team. On May 3, 2022 in the afternoon local time, the coach of the U-23 Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae-yong and his players arrived in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho,” Zing said. News, Thursday (5/5/2022).

“What stands out in the Indonesian U-23 national team squad is the presence of two naturalized players, namely Marc Klok and Ronaldo Kwateh,” added the statement from the Vietnamese media.

However, this is not 100 percent true. The reason is, only Marc Klok is really a naturalized player for the U-23 Indonesian National Team.

While Ronaldo does have descendants from Liberia which was passed down from his father. However, the 17-year-old player was born in Yogyakarta and grew up there, so he is not a naturalized player.

Ronaldo Kwateh

It is still understandable that such mistakes can occur. The reason is, Kwateh does have a slightly different stature when compared to other Indonesian national team players.

The U-23 Indonesian National Team and U-23 Vietnam will also compete in the first match of the 2021 SEA Games Group A preliminary round. The match will be held at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho, on Friday 6 May 2022 at 19.00 WIB.
