According to the ÖAMTC, illegal parking is practically “hunted” in Advent: During this time, more than ever before is towed away. Towing the vehicle results in high costs.
According to the ÖAMTC, vehicles are always towed in Vienna, but illegal parking is particularly popular during the Christmas season: an annual average of 100 vehicles are towed away every day, 50-60 in the summer months and more than 200 in December.

More than 400 euros for parking illegally in Advent in Vienna
The fact that parking spaces are in short supply, especially in Advent, and that many drivers lose their nerve after endless circles and park illegally, makes the tills of the city ring: If you don’t have anything to give away, you should definitely avoid wrong parking. The replacement of a car parked in a disabled or bus parking lot can cost more than 400 euros. Hence the ÖAMTC tip: The most expensive parking garage is significantly cheaper than any towing.

Towing costs in Vienna
According to the ÖAMTC, the towing costs a hefty 264 euros. The fee for keeping the vehicle at the towing point of MA 48 in Simmering is EUR 10 per day. The fine is usually 108 euros for parking that obstructs traffic (up to 726 euros for serious offenses – e.g. parking in disabled parking spaces). Anyone who then takes their car by taxi pays a total of more than 400 euros.

Attention parking offenders: people like to be towed here
Cars that are parked in second lanes, in parking spaces for the disabled, in tram or bus stops, in front of house entrances or in taxi zones are particularly at risk of being towed. Even on thoroughfares, such as the Gürtel, they are rigorously towed away, given the stopping ban that applies during peak traffic times.
