A 23-year-old man from the Klagenfurt-Land district inquired about investment opportunities on a social media platform. As a result, a group on a messenger service was suggested to him. He joined and was immediately contacted by a suspected investment banker. What he didn’t know at the time was that he was dealing with a common scammer.

Fraudsters wanted thousands of euros for premium access

He made him an offer to join a private premium messenger group. To do this, however, he would have to fork over an amount of several thousand euros. Due to the credible demeanor of the self-appointed advisor, the Carinthian then granted him remote access to his cell phone and had the amount transferred to a wallet.

Investment ended with going to the police

But during the consultation, the banker suddenly faked technical problems. “The conversation was ended, the money was transferred from the wallet to an unknown direction and the 23-year-old was ultimately removed from the premium group,” says the police, who have now started an investigation. It was no longer possible to contact us so far.
