At the Groot Dictee der Nederlandse Taal on NPO Radio 1, two participants finished in shared first place among the prominents. Writer Karin Sitalsing and VVD MP Judith Thielen both had only two mistakes.

Live from the Groningen Forum, twenty well-known Dutch people competed against twenty listeners of the KRO-NCRV program The linguistic state. The squad of listeners included the eventual winner by just one mistake, 47-year-old Patrick van Aarle from Eindhoven.

Some well-known participants this year were opera singer Francis van Broekhuizen, presenter Margriet Vroomans, children’s book author Tosca Menten and writer and columnist Bert Wagendorp.

The dictation was read by former Speaker of the Chamber Gerdi Verbeet. Just like in the last four years, the text was written by the linguist Wim Daniëls.

The text, with the title Groningen is like this, It was about the fact that the province is much more than earthquakes in the gas field.

The Groot Dictee was broadcast for the fifth time since The state of language presented by Frits Spits. Before that, dictation could be seen for years on television with Philip Freriks as the face.
