Herman Brusselmans (64) and his girlfriend Lena (30) are expecting their first child. The Belgian writer says to The newspapaer that it was not planned, but that they are “very happy”.
“It is still very early. All we have for the time being is a very small photo of the fruit. But we are very happy,” says the columnist, who already hinted at the news in his last column in There. “Two months ago we heard the news. It is also a bit of getting used to for me. We don’t know yet whether it will be a boy or a girl.”
It will be their first child for both Brusselmans and Lena from Amsterdam. He finds that the writer will be 65 when the baby is born “a bit confronting”. “But I don’t necessarily see that as a negative. Lena and I are especially happy now. We weren’t ‘trying’, as they say. It was not planned, not planned. It just happened.”
The two met in 2016 and have been living together in Ghent since 2018. Brusselmans has been married twice.
