Full version of the note
my price Balachandranchullikad
It was on the thirtieth of January (30-01-2024) that I really understood what the people of Kerala paid me.
International Literary Festival at Kerala Janata Sahitya Akademi. The Akademi had invited me to speak on Kumaranashan’s Karunakavyam on the morning of January 30.
I reached there on time and spoke for two hours on the subject. What has been said is what my limited intellect has grasped as a result of fifty years of trying to learn Asankavita.
I was paid two thousand nine hundred rupees. (2400/-)
The taxi from Ernakulam to Thrissur cost me three thousand five hundred rupees (3500/-) including waiting charge and driver’s bata.
I took 2400 rupees out of 3500 rupees and paid the remaining 1100 rupees from the money I earned by acting in the serial.
Enlightened Malayalees,
Till today I have not come to join your Sahitya Akademi or bow to your ministers and accept awards and distinctions. And will never come.
Malayalees who pay tens of thousands and lakhs for mime and singing, thank you for letting me know that the price you have given me through your Sahitya Akademi is only 2400 rupees. There is a request. Please don’t bother me anymore with your cultural needs. Don’t take away the time left from my life. I have other work.
